RECOVERY FROM CANCER IN 7 EASY STEPS
As explained in my article, I Solved the Warburg Effect, cancer is caused by loss of mitochondrial silicon which causes mitochondria to leak electrons. Silicon acts as a semiconductor that normally keeps electrons contained to the mitochondrial electron transport chain, and these leaking electrons cause the Warburg Effect, which is the inability of cells to oxidize carbohydrate for energy even in the presence of oxygen and results in greatly impaired production of energy in the form of ATP. However, leaking electrons also cause the premature reduction of molecular oxygen intended for the terminal end of the transport chain, further disturbing energy homeostasis and causing production of reactive oxygen species (like superoxide). These steps help to rapidly restore energy, mood, and recovery but it is very deceptive because recovery is not actually made until at least a full year of practicing these steps (aspirin can be cut back or stopped once recovery is very noticeable). While this program is on its own very comprehensive, it also relies on other principles discussed only in my book and assumes an understanding of the basic biology behind supportive functions in gut health and immunity not discussed here. Treatment (aside from the use of aspirin) should continue for a full TWO YEARS in order to prevent relapse, while also never again abandoning the dietary and behavioral principles that underly resistance to cancer and overall health and wellbeing as discussed in my book. While even meat contains some silicon, it is highest in fruits and vegetables and lowest in refined foods like white flour and soft drinks. Generally, reduced intake of animal protein and greatly increased consumption of high polyphenol plant foods (fruits and vegetables) is the foundation for recovery.
Anchor Diet in Fruits and Vegetables
Cut back on animal protein, especially meat, since it lacks protective phytonutrients.
Increase plant foods like leafy greens, fruit, root vegetables, etc.
NO FAST FOOD—learn to cook goddammit
Loss of mitochondrial silicon is in turn caused by ammonia producing pathogens like parasites and H. pylori, as ammonia disturbs populations of healthy gastrointestinal commensal microbes which normally break down food to release its nutrient content (like silicon) but also produce short chain fatty acids which acidify nutrients like silicon to make them more bioavailable. In alkaline pH such as is caused by ammonia silicon spontaneously polymerizes (clumps together) which prevents absorption, causing poor uptake of silicon into the body even when it occurs abundantly in the diet. To immediately reverse this problem it is useful to manually acidify a dose of plant-sourced silicon (about 300-400 mg) daily such as by using dietary acids like lemon juice or lime juice (about 1/4 cup), or the use of powdered citric acid in a little water (it should be as strong as lemon juice). Vinegar is made from the short chain fatty acid acetic acid and is far more effective to use than citrus, but it can be unpleasant to consume for some people. If you like or don’t mind vinegar it should be used instead of citrus. A combination of the two can be great as well, and it’s just fine to use citrus otherwise if vinegar is too unpalatable. After mixing the acid and silicon it can be diluted lightly in other acidic beverages like grape juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, tangerine juice, strong tea, etc. Water can be used if juices are not available but keeping the solution acidic will help promote better absorption of the silicon. It should be immediately noticed after even a single dose that energy levels improve. An alternative to this step is the use of silicic acid as a supplement. Taking a dose of supplemental silicon on its own without promoting acidification will NOT have this same effect since, remember, silicon is already abundant in the diet and the problem is alkalization of the gut by ammonia producers and inhibition of healthy gut microbes. One dose daily of acidified silicon or silicic acid should be plenty—it is important not to overdo this in desperation to get well because excessive silicon intake can potentially cause silicosis. Silicon repletion helps to re-insulate mitochondria to help restore normal energy production, so this step is effective through consistency, NOT potency. Children with cancer should only be given 1/2 the dose for adults. Using the lemon juice/plant silicon mixture to make strong lemonade is a great way to help children.
Failure of mitochondria to produce energy in the form of ATP due to mitochondria dysfunction and loss of silicon means that all the many pathways which require ATP do not function, which is a primary underlying etiology (cause) of cancer. So it does no good to simply restore silicon and then fail to eat since food, especially carbohydrates, are the primary source of ATP production by mitochondria. One molecule of glucose oxidation in mitochondria results in up to 34 molecules of ATP, while its metabolism in the cytosol only results in 2 molecules of ATP, so cancer cells overconsume sugar due to their severely inefficient production of ATP and high ATP requirements. This fact is mistaken by many people (including oncologists) to imply that it’s possible to starve cancer cells—but ALL OF OUR CELLS run on sugar (carbs), and avoiding carbs simply causes cancer to catabolize your other tissues much faster. After restoring mitochondria silicon the increase in energy and feeling better is PRECISELY due to restoration of normal ATP synthesis by mitochondria consuming carbohydrate, and the increase in energy then helps cells to repair themselves and stop the cancer process. Failing to eat sufficiently frequent or sufficient calories and carbohydrates will result in continued energy deficit and make it more difficult to recover. During recovery anyone with cancer should never go more than 2 hours without eating something.
Acidified Silicon + Eat Frequently
300-400 mg plant-source silicon (100-200 mg for children)
1/4 cup lemon juice or other citrus juice (or 1 tsp citric acid powder in 1/4 cup water)
mix, allow to stand for a few minutes, then dilute in a little fruit juice or tea (about 1 cup) before taking
*best taken later in the day, not first thing in the morning (such as after breakfast or lunch).
DO NOT go more than 2 hours without eating, in order to promote ATP synthesis.
or 400 mg silicic acid supplement daily (100-200 mg for children)
Many pathogens which produce excess ammonia in the body actually use water as the cofactor which then hydrolyzes protein as an energy source and releases ammonia. To inhibit these pathogens it is required to STOP taking all fluids with any food unless that fluid contains tannin which is a common polyphenol in plants that inhibits enzymes like those used to produce ammonia (such as arginase or arginine deiminase). Tannin is the primary factor responsible for the health effects of stereotypical health foods like tea, olives, chocolate, nuts (which retain their skins), and fruit. Having plain water or commercial beverages like soda with meals is like pouring gasoline onto the fire that is cancer. Instead, choose tea, strong fruit juices like undiluted grape juice, cranberry juice, citrus juices, etc. Not all herbal teas contain tannin but one common non-caffeinated option is Indian bay leaf (NOT bay laurel that is used in soups and stocks), although it must be simmered for more than an hour to fully release all its tannins it is very pleasant to drink. Having nuts which retain their skins such as hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, walnuts, etc., with a meal is also very effective as those skins release very large quantities of tannin during digestion (naked nuts without skins contain no tannin and so are not useful for this step). Some spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, paprika, cloves, etc., also contain tannins and using increased quantity of spices in all food can help as well. When the gut microbiome is restored, silicon can be added to high-polyphenol beverages like tea or coffee which, protected by their tannin content (which is a polyphenol that is also metabolized into short chain fatty acids by healthy microbes), can result in natural acidification of this silicon by gut microbes and replace the need to supplement manually acidified silicon—this is entirely dependent on the gut microbiome, though, so it would not work while on antibiotics or chemotherapy, during which instead the use of acidified silicon or silicic acid should occur.
Tannins, With all Food and Beverage Intake (protein)
DO NOT COMBINE TANNIN-FREE WATER OR BEVERAGES AND PROTEIN IN THE GUT
Tea
Nuts with skins (hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans, etc.)
Strong fruit juices (purple grape, cranberry, prune juice, citrus juice, etc).
Cocoa/chocolate
Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, paprika, etc.
As discussed in my book, Fuck Portion Control, commensal bacteria are dependent on the vitamin cobalamin (vitamin B12) to adhere to and properly metabolize food in the gut and to produce the short chain fatty acids and other B vitamins required for normal digestion of food and acquisition of nutrients like dietary silicon. Other microbes in our gut can produce B12 but this is entirely dependent on your personal vitamin D status and sun exposure. Vitamin D status can be interrupted by many factors even if you get plenty of sunshine (as discussed in my book) so having cancer is also a symptom of poor microbial vitamin B12 status. In order to circumvent this problem a supplement of B12 (no more than 5 mg is necessary) can and should be added to one large meal daily. It MUST be mixed into the food in order to advantage our gut microflora—simply taking a dose without mixing will fail to distribute it evenly through food and thus fail to assist the commensal microbes. One dose daily seems enough to supply healthy microbes for about 24-36 hours. It can be added during cooking of foods like soups or sauces, or added to salad dressings, or added to tea which is drunk before, during, and after a meal. Because it may add excessive methyl groups to the body I avoid methylcobalamin form of B12, but all others are likely great (such as cyanocobalamin). This practice should continue well after recovery is made since the state of cancer represents severe disruption to the healthy gut microbiome and thus production of short chain fatty acids. If for some reason supplemental B12 is not available, the use of high B12 sources like clams, clam juice, or fermenting with Swiss cheese cultures (which contains B12 producing bacteria) can be an option. Our body also requires biotin (vitamin B7) to sequester ammonia, so it can be very helpful to add biotin also once a day to meals or in tea or juice. Biotin is inhibited by opportunistic avidin producers in the gut, as well as by egg whites which are extremely high in avidin. For this reason it can also be helpful to avoid eggs, or only consume their yolks (which are conversely high in biotin), and take steps to reverse these avidin producing microbes as discussed in my book for long term recovery.
B12 + B7 Fortification
1 mg B12 (cobalamin), added to foods like soups, sauces, salad dressing, tea, etc., once a day. Restore normal vitamin D status in the long term.
1 mg B7 (biotin) added to foods (in tea is especially useful), once daily.
Aspirin is one of the most effective medications to use in the treatment of cancer. My discovery of what causes the Warburg Effect explains its mechanism of action as aspirin helps to acidify mitochondria which not only promotes an increase in energy production but would also help them retain their silicon which to better insulate against leaking of electrons. Aspirin is very powerful, in my own recovery from cancer before discovering the solution to the Warburg Effect I used an average of four aspirin per day (325 mg each, 2 pills twice a day). Now that I uncovered the role of mitochondrial silicon in this process much less aspirin is required since its use is directly synergistic with acidified silicon (and restoration of the gut microbiome to naturally acidify dietary silicon), and only one aspirin once or twice a day would be required for most people with cancer. Children should not take high doses of aspirin (neonates should never be given aspirin), and a daily baby aspirin (80 mg) is likely more than sufficient for children. Aspirin has some side effects—it can cause stomach irritation and gastrointestinal bleeding which is in fact a symptom of vitamin K deficiency because aspirin thins the blood and vitamin K helps promote blood coagulation. Because of this, the use of aspirin should be supported by daily consumption of high vitamin K foods like spinach, kale, basil (pesto is especially nice), broccoli, etc. Vitamin K plays many important roles in our physiology, including the metabolism of calcium and the normal function of calcium-dependent cellular structures like the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum, so it should be in the diet frequently anyway. A supplement of vitamin K can be fine, but our commensal microbiome is also dependent on vitamin K, so a supplement should never replace dietary vitamin K (because a supplement gets absorbed too soon to benefit microbes). Generally aspirin should not have lots of ingredients and should be cheap, uncoated, etc. This can be hard to find in the store as companies try to make their products look expensive to justify charging exorbitant prices, so find plain aspirin or aspirin powder online.
Aspirin + Vitamin K (dietary)
325 mg, once or twice daily for adults
40-80 mg, once daily for children
Daily dietary vitamin K to support aspirin function—spinach, kale, basil (pesto works great!), broccoli, etc.
When people die from cancer treatment it is usually because chemotherapy entirely exhausts body stores of sulfate which is required to detoxify chemicals, hormones, poisons, toxins, xenobiotics, etc. Making this problem worse in cancer is that sulfate reducing pathogens in the gut also steal sulfate from products of detoxification which then causes those products to recirculate back into the body. When this occurs to detoxified hormones like adrenaline or estrogens those hormones remain continuously in circulation, continuously causing their effects (which contributes to cancer development and progression), and when this occurs to detoxified chemotherapy drugs they remain as well to continuously poison the body, which also then occurs when the body runs out of sulfate (and the sources from which it is made like the sulfur amino acids methionine and cysteine). This massive depletion of sulfate required to detoxify chemotherapy drugs is the reason for severe wasting that accompanies chemotherapy, but as cancer spreads it also overconsumes both sulfur amino acids and glutamate and glutamine to cause wasting anyway. I am of the opinion that chemotherapy should be avoided, instead using the aforementioned steps to halt cancer progression, and to only use lumpectomy to remove large tumors if required, after progress has been made in rehabilitation and physical health. In order to restore sulfate for normal detoxification of hormones, xenobiotics, and to support chemotherapy if the decision is made to do it (try a reduced amount!) dietary carotene should also accompany all dietary sources of protein and sulfur including but not limited to animal products (meat, dairy, eggs), grains (bread, pasta, corn, beans), nuts, garlic, onions, etc. The primary symptom of this problem are malodorous feces, flatulence, and oral malodor which is in fact hydrogen sulfide produced by sulfate reducing bacteria. This pathway is more complex than I can cover in this step, and should be read in my book for a more thorough understanding of this process, but consumption of some carotene such as from carrots, tomatoes, red peppers, mangos, papaya, watermelon, peaches, nectarines, etc., with all dietary protein and sulfur will help suppress sulfate reducing pathogens and promote better repletion with sulfur for detoxification pathways (turmeric is not carotene).
Dietary Carotene to Promote Sulfate
Carotene sources consumed with all dietary protein and sulfur (onions, garlic, etc.), without exception (not large quantities! the benefit comes from frequency). Options are foods like carrots, tomatoes, red bell peppers, paprika, peaches, nectarines, watermelon, papaya, mango, chayote, etc.
Natural progesterone is also highly therapeutic to cancer, as it both promotes a higher metabolic rate and energy production as well as protects cells from stress and the growth stimulatory effects of estrogen (a primary driver of cancer). It also promotes thyroid function which also serves to rehabilitate cells and distribute iodine which helps support the immune system. Synthetic progesterone does not function quite the same as natural, and progesterone can and will result in higher body temperature and energy production from daily supplementation. There are not a lot of progesterone products on the market I like—one is called Progest-E and the other is Forefront Health brand Progesterone. Generally these are also formulated with natural vitamin E which also helps rehabilitate from cancer. Thyroid hormone also functions as an iodine distribution vehicle in the body and iodine is a vital component in the immune system which helps to fight the pathogens which cause such illnesses. While iodine is regularly added to commercial salt it is otherwise absent from diets unless a great deal of seafood is consumed. If this is not the case for you, dosing a small amount of iodine daily such as in tea (add to the water before boiling) can greatly help recovery by promoting normal thyroid and immune function. Iodine can suppress the gut microbiome though, and MUST be added to boiling water first (which is then used to make tea or added to juice) as this helps hydrate the iodine and promote its uptake into the body rather than remaining in the gut—and yes it can be added at the same time as B12 and biotin).
Many people with cancer also have oral disease, because oral pathogens also directly contribute to cancer by producing toxic protease enzymes used to digest our tissues and inhibit the immune system. Signs of these pathogens are any gum bleeding (yes, especially from brushing your teeth!). In order to rapidly eradicate those harmful pathogens and hasten recovery you can get a shot of ceftriaxone, which is an intramuscular antibiotic—oral antibiotics WILL NOT WORK because oral pathogens actually invade the bloodstream and circulate throughout the body, and must be an injected form like ceftriaxone. In fact, one of the primary ways that chemotherapy treats cancer, when it does, is by eradicating pathogens. But because it does not prevent reinfection, and because most people (including most oncologists) don’t know about the specific pathogenic factors which underlie cancer, reinfection occurs easily when resuming normal life (especially intimacy with a partner who will also harbor those pathogens). Treating romantic partners is also ideal. If it’s not possible to get ceftriaxone, the steps in restoring immunity as discussed here and in my book will suffice (it will just take a bit longer).
Immune + Thyroid Function
Several drops natural progesterone product daily.
2 mg potassium iodide daily (no more than 1 mg for children, added to water before boiling to make tea, or added to juice)
shot of ceftriaxone if possible
